Different skin types require different levels of hydration and moisturization to reach and maintain its ideal moisture content of 15 – 20%.  Hydrating the skin increases its water content, whereas moisturizing increases levels of oil and essential fatty acids in the skin.  Maintaining moisture and hydration is critical to skin health, vitality, and physical appearance – the more moisture and hydration, the fewer lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity.  We can help retain the skin’s moisture content by applying the appropriate levels of moisturizers that cater to the unique needs of different skin types.

VERY OILY SKIN:  If you have very oily skin, all you need is a hydrating toner after cleansing to give your skin a drink of water.  If your skin already produces excess oil, you do not need an additional moisturizer.  However, it is always a good idea to use a hydrating eye cream like 100% Pure’s Cucumber Gel Eye Cream because the skin around our eyes do not produce much oil and need additional hydration.  For very oily skin, it is even recommended to use oil blotting sheets throughout the day to keep complexion refreshed.

NORMAL TO OILY SKIN:  If you have normal to oily skin, you mostly need hydration and minimal surface moisture.  Moisturizers for normal to oily skin should absorb quickly, and have relatively low levels of oils and higher levels of water to hydrate skin cells while lightly conditioning the surface of the skin.

NORMAL TO DRY SKIN:  If you have normal to dry skin, you need equal amounts of water and oil to penetrate the layers of the skin as well as to moisturize the skin’s surface.  Normal to dry skin can especially benefit from regular exfoliation and using a richer cream that continually hydrates througout the day.  You may even opt for a richer night cream for additional moisturization.

DRY SKIN:  If you have dry skin, the priority is to intensely moisturize with lightweight serums that penetrate the skin to strengthen and firm from within, and to apply buttery facial creams to deeply moisturize.  It is also imperative that you exfoliate regularly.  Dry skin especially needs more surface moisture to soften lines and wrinkles so the moisturizer texture is a lot more rich and decadent.
